Thunder football team falls to UW-River Falls in the NCAA D3 Playoffs' Quarterfinal
River Falls, Wis. – The Wheaton football team concluded its 2025 season on Saturday in the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Playoffs. UW-River Falls (12-1) topped the Thunder 46-21 as Wheaton concludes the season with an 11-3 record.
Thunder football team defeats DePauw University, 49-24, to advance to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals
Greencastle, Ind. -- Traveling to DePauw University for the first time since 1969, the Wheaton football team took down the hosting Tigers by a score of 49-24 in today's NCAA Division III Third Round playoff game to seal its place in the Quarterfinal round. The Thunder have advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time since 2019 and the fifth occasion in program history. Additionally, Wheaton has won three playoff games in a single season for just the second time after also doing so in 2008. The Thunder will face the winner of today's Third Round contest between Saint John's University and UW-River Falls in next Saturday's quarterfinal round, and the site of that matchup will be announced by the NCAA on Sunday afternoon.

Wheaton defeats Wartburg, 28-24 in NCAA Division III Playoffs under wintery conditions
Waverly, Iowa – Wheaton defeated Wartburg College 28-24 on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division Football Playoffs. The Wheaton defense pushed away a potential game-winning TD pass to emerge with the win. Wheaton will face DePauw University next Saturday in a Quarterfinal round game.

Wheaton football advances to Second Round of Division III Playoffs with a 76-14 victory against Crown
Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College Thunder football team took on the Crown College Polars in the First Round of the NCAA DIII Playoffs on Saturday afternoon at Wheaton's McCully Stadium. This is the first-ever matchup between the two programs and the first-ever playoff appearance for the Polars, who received an automatic bid by winning the UMAC conference. Wheaton would advance to round two after beating Crown 76-14, displaying strength in all three facets of the game. Wheaton will travel to Waverly, Iowa, next Saturday to take on Wartburg University in Round Two of the DIII Football Playoffs at noon.

No. 18 Thunder football team closes out the regular season with a 52-6 win at North Park
Chicago, Ill. - Wheaton Thunder Football concluded its regular season against the North Park Vikings on Saturday afternoon. The Thunder were victorious 52-6 in Chicago today. At 8–2 overall and 8–1 in CCIW play, Wheaton is a strong candidate for an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Football Championship, which starts next Saturday at campus sites. The Division III Selection Show will air on NCAA.com on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. (CST).

#18-ranked Thunder football team overpowers Millikin, 61-14
Wheaton, Ill. - #18-Wheaton hosted the Millikin Big Blue football team on Saturday, looking to continue its six-game winning streak against the program. The Thunder did just that, winning 61-14 behind a 27-point first quarter. Wheaton improved to 7-1 in conference play (7-2 overall), while the Big Blue fell to 1-7 in CCIW play (2-7 overall).
#19 Wheaton rolls past Elmhurst, 65-0, for fourth-straight win
Elmhurst, Ill. -- The #19-ranked Wheaton football team traveled to Elmhurst University on Saturday looking to extend its 11-game win streak against the Bluejays and remain unbeaten against today's opponent under head coach Jesse Scott . The Thunder did exactly that, smothering the Elmhurst offense in a 65-0 rout. It marked Wheaton's eighth-straight game scoring 40 or more points against Elmhurst, their third time surpassing 60 points this season, and the program's first shutout and largest margin of victory since October of 2023. The win moves Wheaton to 6-1 in conference play, while Elmhurst falls to 0-7 on the year.

No. 20-ranked Thunder football team earns a tightly contested 28-24 victory at home against WashU
Wheaton, Ill. - #20-Ranked Wheaton hosted the Washington University Bears at McCully Stadium on Saturday. This was a crucial conference matchup for both squads, who were vying for a share of second place in the CCIW standings. The Thunder sought to maintain their all-time series momentum, entering the game riding a five-game winning streak. Their rush defense had also been stout the previous week, allowing only 22 yards on the ground. Wheaton won the game 28-24, moving to 5-2 on the season and 5-1 in the conference, while WashU dropped to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the CCIW standings. Wheaton, Ill. - The #21-ranked Wheaton Thunder football team hosted the Carthage College Firebirds on Saturday afternoon at McCully Stadium. Wheaton came into the game riding a 14-game win streak against Carthage and seeking to add to the all-time record of 48-12 against the Firebirds. After a 47-21 victory, Wheaton was able to do just that, moving to 4-2 for the season, with a 4-1 CCIW record. Carthage fell to 2-4 with the loss and a 1-4 record in CCIW play.

The Thunder football team records its highest point total ever in Bloomington with a 65-21 victory against IWU
Bloomington, Ill. – The 19 th -ranked Wheaton Thunder traveled to Bloomington to take on the Illinois Wesleyan Titans, seeking to continue their five-game winning streak against the Titans. Wheaton won 65-21 as they moved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in CCIW play on the season, with the Thunder offense humming in all aspects of the game. Illinois Wesleyan falls to 2-3 on the season and 2-2 in the CCIW.

The Thunder football team falls to No. 1 North Central in the "Battle for the Little Brass Bell"
Naperville, Ill. – The Thunder football team traveled eight miles south of McCully Stadium on Saturday night for the first time since 2022 as the top-ranked North Central Cardinals hosted Wheaton in the "Battle for the Little Brass Bell". North Central (4-0, 3-0 CCIW) defeated Wheaton 35-0. The Thunder entered tonight's matchup ranked 14 th in the current D3football.com Top-25, and 15 th in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Top-25.

#18 Wheaton stifles Augustana in a 50-7 road win to begin CCIW play
Rock Island, Ill. -- In its first game of conference play, the 18 th -ranked Wheaton Thunder football team traveled to Rock Island on Saturday to take on the Augustana Vikings and won by a score of 50-7. Tonight's first victory of the season brings the Thunder's record to 1-1. The result extends the Thunder's win streak against the Vikings to 18 games and marks head coach Jesse Scott 's fifth-straight win in five years against Augustana. Wheaton moves to 38-29 all-time against tonight's opponents. Additionally, Saturday's lopsided scoreline sees Wheaton post its highest point total in the conference opener since 2008 and earn its largest margin of victory in a CCIW opener since the 2002 season.
Furious fourth-quarter rally falls just short for No. 17 Thunder football team at No. 2 Mount Union, 37-29
Alliance, Ohio – The No. 17 ranked Wheaton football team opened up the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon at No. 2 ranked University of Mount Union. The Purple Raiders defeated the Thunder 37-29 in the first-ever regular season meeting between the two Division III powers. Today's contest was the seventh overall meeting between the two schools on the gridiron. The six previous meetings were NCAA Division III Playoff contests at Mount Union (1995, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008).

The Thunder defeated the Firebirds 50-13 for the road win, and Wheaton's 14 th -consecutive win against Carthage. The Thunder improve to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in CCIW play.

Football returns to win column with 42-21 victory over Illinois Wesleyan
Wheaton, Ill. - The Thunder football team bounced back from last week's defeat to top-ranked North Central with a convincing 42-21 victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday at McCully Stadium. The victory is Wheaton's fifth-straight win over the Titans marking Wheaton's longest win streak in the series between the two teams. With the win, Wheaton improves to 3-2 on the season and 3-1 in CCIW play. Illinois Wesleyan falls to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in conference action. San Antonio, Texas – The eighth-ranked Thunder football team traveled to Texas for the program's first regular season contest in the 'Lone Star State' to face ninth-ranked Trinity University. The hard-fought non-conference battle was tied 10-10 at the end of regulation and needed overtime to collect the final score. Trinity scored a touchdown in its first overtime possession to take a 17-10 lead. Wheaton scored to cut the Tigers' lead to 17-16. However, Wheaton's PAT kick following the touchdown was blocked and the hosts earned the 17-16 OT victory.

Football falls 30-28 in second round of NCAA Playoffs
Pella, Iowa -- The 2021 season came to an end for the Thunder football team on Saturday afternoon, as Wheaton suffered a heartbreaking defeat to the Central College Dutch in the second round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs. Central prevailed on home turf by a score of 30-28, and their last-second touchdown was enough to propel them into the quarterfinals where they will take on UW-Whitewater. The eighth-ranked Dutch avenged their 2019 playoff exit at the hands of the Thunder and improve to 12-0 on the season as a result of today's win. The Thunder finish their fall campaign with a record of 10-2.

#10-Ranked Thunder football team falls at Augustana, 17-14
Rock Island, Ill. (10/14) – The Thunder football team took its first loss of the season on Saturday in a 17-14 defeat at Augustana College. Today's defeat was Wheaton's first loss in Rock Island since 1998. Augustana improves to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Wheaton falls to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. The Thunder will return to action next Saturday in a 1 PM kickoff at North Park.
#21-Ranked Thunder win fourth straight with a 20-7 victory at Millikin
Decatur, Ill. ( 9/30) – The Thunder football team earned its fourth consecutive victory on Saturday with a 20-7 win at Millikin University. Wheaton, ranked 21st in the most recent D3Football.com Top 25 Poll, improves to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the CCIW. Millikin falls to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Thunder will host North Central next Saturday at 1 PM as a part of Wheaton 's Homecoming festivities. Saturday's game will be the 88 th annual meeting for “Little Brass Bell” that is on the line every year when the Thunder meets the Cardinals.

Holland, Mich. (9/23) – The Wheaton Thunder football team used an early lead and solid play at critical times in a 35-21 win under damp and overcast conditions at Hope College on Saturday afternoon. The win against the Flying Dutchmen was the 14 th consecutive regular season, non-conference victory for Wheaton. Wheaton, ranked 21st in this week's D3Football.com Top 25, improves to 3-0 on the season. The Thunder will open CCIW play next Saturday in a 1 PM kickoff at Millikin University. Hope falls to 0-3 on the year.
The Thunder football team opens 2006 season with an impressive 29-7 victory against Albion
Wheaton , Ill. – The Wheaton College football team opened its 2006 season in impressive fashion with a 29-7 victory against Albion College on Saturday night under the lights in front of an overflow crowd at McCully Field. The hosts utilized a stifling defense and a balanced offensive attack to pick up the victory. Albion tallied 222 yards of offense, with just 10 rushing yards. The Thunder offense collected 330 yards, with an impressive balance of 184 rushing yards and 146 passing yards. Wheaton (1-0) will host Washington University next Saturday at 1 PM. Albion falls to 1-1 on the season.
