#15-Thunder football team shuts out Albion 66-0

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College football team earned a 66-0 victory against Albion College on Saturday night in the home opener for the Thunder. Wheaton, ranked 15th in this week's D3football.com Top-25 is now 2-0 on the year. Albion falls to 1-1. The Thunder will host Luther College next Saturday at 3 PM in the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Thunder.

Wheaton scored 24 points in the first quarter and added another 21 points in the second quarter as the hosts held a 45-0 lead at halftime. Wheaton recorded 582 yards of total offense, with 334 rushing yards and 238 passing yards. The Thunder defense held the Britons to 192 yards in the game, with 132 passing yards and just 60 rushing yards.

Tonight was the first shutout for the Thunder since a 28-0 win at North Park on October 15, 2011. Tonight's 66 points is the most by the Thunder since a 73-26 win at North Park on Oct. 21, 2006. The 66-point margin of victory in tonight's game is the largest by a Wheaton team since an 83-0 win at Elmhurst in 1959.

Thunder quarterback Jordan Roberts ran for 174 yards, with four rushing touchdowns. Roberts carried the ball 14 times, averaging 12.4 yards per carry. The senior QB completed 13 of his 17 passing attempts for 156 yards, with one touchdown pass.

Senior tailback Charlie Velling carried the ball nine times for 46 yards with one touchdown run for Wheaton. Justin Swider ran the ball 10 times for 40 yards, with one touchdown and Danny Puknaitis also scored a rushing touchdown. Jesse Geary caught two passes, including a long reception of 46 yards for a touchdown reception.

Sam Cote converted his only field goal attempt, a 44-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Austin Brooks and Jordan Dornbush each led the Thunder with five total tackles. Jackson Edwards and Michael Risher each had interceptions in the game. Jared Todd tallied two quarterback sacks (-12 yards). Oskar Cadena (PICTURED LEFT) had four tackles, with one tackle for lost yardage.
