No. 23 Thunder football tops Elmhurst 79-0 in the regular season finale

Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder football team, ranked 23rd in this week's D3football.com Top-25 Poll, closed out the regular season on Saturday with a 79-0 victory at home against Elmhurst College (1-9, 0-9 CCIW). Wheaton is now 8-2 overall and 7-2 in CCIW play this season.

The Thunder offense racked up 454 yards of offense, averaging 7.8 yards per play. Wheaton ran for 220 yards and passed for 234 yards. Elmhurst had 159 yards of offense with 144 passing yards and 15 rushing yards.

Thunder quarterback Curtis McWilliams (PICTURED LEFT) completed nine of his 12 passing attempts for 135 yards, with three touchdowns passes. Jesse Furrow was 5-of-6 passing, with 69 yards through the air and a touchdown toss. Spencer Peterson was 2-for-2 passing with two yards. Dave Beamer completed one pass attempt for 10 yards.

Jaelin Goldsmith (PICTURED RIGHT) carried the ball six time for 67 yards with two touchdown runs. Jacob Cretin ran the ball 12 times for 61 yards with a touchdown run.

Carson Lien led the Thunder receiving corps with four catches for 58 yards. Tyler Pace had two touchdown catches. Adam Terrini and Carter Roberts each had a touchdown grab for the hosts.

Dallas McRae led the Wheaton defense with seven total tackles. McRae registered a team-high two quarterback sacks. Jacob Killeen and Daniel Herber (PICTURED LEFT) each had six total tackles for the Thunder. Grant Miller had two tackles for lost yardage (-11 yards). Corey Kennedy returned a fumble 27 yards for a touchdown and he had a 62-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Kennedy's 27-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown opened up Wheaton's scoring in the game. Touchdowns by Carter Roberts, Adam Terrini and Peterson came in the first quarter. Wheaton added touchdowns by Kennedy, Tyler Pace (PICTURED RIGHT) and Jacob Cretin in the second quarter as the Thunder led 51-0 at halftime.

Goldsmith scored twice in the third quarter for the hosts and Pace had a second touchdown grab in the third. Wheaton's final score was a nine-yard touchdown run by Stone Watson early in the fourth quarter.

NOTE WORTHY: Today's 79 points is the third-highest single-game point total in program history behind the school-record 90 points scored against Elmhurst in 1958 and 83 points against Elmhurst in a victory in 1959...Wheaton's 79-point effort is tied for the sixth-highest single-game point total in Division III this season...with today's shutout the Wheaton defense has not allowed a touchdown in the last 17-consecutive quarters...Wheaton has out-scored its opponents 205-6 in the final four games of the 2018 regular season.Print Friendly Version
