Wheaton,

Ill. (12/22) - Wheaton College senior James Hoxworth

(Bridgeport, Neb./Bridgeport) has been selected as one of three finalists

for the Bobby Bowden Award, given to a well-rounded college football player,

who excels on the field, in the classroom and in life. This year's award,

given by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), is the inaugural presentation

of the honor. The winner will announced at an FCA breakfast in New Orleans,

the site of the Division I Championship Game, on January 3 with the three

finalists present.

Hoxworth will join punter Kyle Larson, of the University

of Nebraska-Lincoln and running back Jason Wright of Northwestern University

in New Orleans as the three finalists for the award. The winner will be announced

at the breakfast and will be presented with the award by Bobby Bowden, the

head football coach at Florida State University. The award is intended to

highlight the collegiate football player who best epitomizes the term student-athlete.

The intent of the award is that the person selected will be one of character,

classroom excellence, athletic achievement and community involvement.

Hoxworth is a Christian Education major at Wheaton, with a 3.55

grade point average. Last summer he created and operated the "West Nebraska

FCA Football Camp" in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Hoxworth was named to three All-American

squads this season as a First Team honoree at left guard. He was a First Team

member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), D3Football.com

and Football Gazette All-American Teams. As a member of the AFCA Division

III All-America Team he was awarded a berth on the United States Team at the

Aztec Bowl, held on Dec. 13 in Cancun, Mexico. Earlier this season he was

selected as a First Team member of the College Division Academic All-America

Team, selected by CoSIDA. Hoxworth also earned All-American accolades as a

junior last season. The 6' 3", 300-pound lineman is a two-time All-College

Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) selection.
