Jeremy Amos among Division III reception leaders
Wheaton,
Ill. (10/4)
- Wheaton College's senior wide receiver Jeremy Amos (Austin,
Texas/Westlake) is ranked second in this week's NCAA Division III statistical
rankings in three different categories. Amos is ranked second in receptions
with an average of 9.8 catches per game, while he is also second in receiving
yards per game with an average of 151 per game. The versatile Amos is also
second among all Division III players in all-purpose yards with an average
of 224.5 yards per game as a receiver, and kick returner for the Thunder.
Amos' 358
all-purpose yards at Hope College on Sept. 23 is the second best all-purpose
effort by a Division III player this season. In that game he had 149 yards
on five kickoff returns, 26 yards on four punt returns, 175 yards on ten
receptions and eight yards on one rush.
The Wheaton
team captain already has recorded a career-best season in receiving yards
with 604 receiving yards this season on 39 receptions in just four games.
Amos entered the season with 1,000 career receiving yards and is on pace
to surpass that mark in this season also.
His previous
best was 515 yards as a sophomore in 1998. He is also likely to topple his
career-best of 43 receptions last season. He is just four catches away from
breaking that mark. Amos is now ranked 11th on Wheaton's all-time receivers
list with 1,604 receiving yards on 114 receptions. Most recently Amos passed
his former teammate Jay Westra (1996-99) on the receiving yards list.
