Wheaton Versus Lake Forest

L Wheaton 6-19 Lake Forest

And somebody got away with murder. The score was 19—6, so judge for yourselves just who that was.

Wheaton received the kick-off and with a series of line plunges soon had Lake Forest back in dangerous territory. A blocked place kick slowed up the attack but still things looked as tho coming our way until L. F. picked up a fumble and it was all over but the score. Before the end of the half they had scored on an intercepted forward pass and the score stood 13—0, favor of Lake Forest. Between halves Coach Gary administered some kindly reproof of the kind that burns like capsicum jelly and has the sting of tabasco sauce, and the third quarter began to show results. Getting the ball on their own thirty yard line Wheaton smashed their way to a touchdown on straight line plunges. In fact the third quarter was the one bright spot of an otherwise gloomy prospect. "Stocky" had the situation well in hand, there was no fumbling, and the line was charging hard and fast. But it was too good to last and toward the end of the quarter Lake Forest won their first touchdown not made on flukes. It was well deserved and gained on straight football. The last quarter was a fairly well balanced see-saw with the advantage slightly in Wheaton's favor. At one time we were within their ten yard line but that didn't change the score. Of mistakes there were a plenty, too numerous to mention, but good playing, tho scarce, wasn't altogether lacking. "Stocky" did some star playing with heels and head, Captain Meebold took some brutal punishment to a crippled back when Wheaton scored during the third quarter, and the line hit hard in spots.
