The CCIW releases four preseason coaches' polls; Wheaton football and women's soccer each picked to finish first

Wheaton, Ill. – The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) has released coaches' polls for four of the league's fall sports, with Wheaton being well-represented in each of these polls. The Thunder football and women's soccer teams are each picked first in their respective polls. Wheaton men's soccer is second in its poll and the Thunder volleyball team was selected fifth in its respective poll.

CCIW FOOTBALL POLL

The Thunder football team has won two of the conference's last three championships and is picked first in the 2017 preseason poll. Wheaton received 61 points and five first-place votes to finish first and North Central was second with 60 points and four first-place votes. Illinois Wesleyan and Carthage each earned 46 points in a tie for third place, Elmhurst finished fifth in the voting with 31 points, Augustana picked up 29 points in sixth place, Millikin was seventh with 27 points, North Park was eighth with 14 points, and Carroll picked up 10 points in ninth place. CCIW WOMEN'S SOCCER POLL

Wheaton, the defending co-CCIW Champion in women's soccer was picked to finish first in the coaches' poll with 61 points and five first-place votes. Illinois Wesleyan tallied 56 points with two first-place votes to finish second in the poll. Carroll tallied 48 points with one first-place vote and Augustana finished fourth in the poll with 40 points and a first-place vote. North Central tallied 38 points in fifth place. Carthage was was selected sixth with 33 points, Elmhurst was seventh with 22 points, Millikin and North Park tied for eighth in the voting with 13 points apiece. LINK TO THE OFFICIAL CCIW RELEASE

CCIW MEN'S SOCCER POLL

Wheaton was picked to finish second in the coaches' preseason poll for men's soccer. Carthage received 61 points and six first-place votes as it was picked first in the men's soccer preseason poll. Wheaton was tabbed to finish second with 57 points and two first-place votes, North Park got 52 points for third place with a first-place vote, Elmhurst received 38 points in fourth place, Illinois Wesleyan finished fifth in voting with 34 points, North Central was sixth with 28 points, Millikin registered 22 points in seventh place, Augustana finished eighth in the voting with 18 points and Augustana was ninth with 14 points. CCIW VOLLEYBALL POLL

Millikin was selected as the league favorite in the preseason volleyball coaches poll with 62 points and six first-place votes, Illinois Wesleyan was second with 55 points and two first-place votes, Elmhurst was tabbed third with 49 points and one first-place vote. Carthage finished fourth in the voting with 46 points, Wheaton and Augustana each received 33 points in a tie for fifth place, North Central was picked seventh with 19 points, North Park was tabbed to finish eighth with 14 points and Carroll received 13 points in ninth place. Voting for each sport is done by that sport's respective head coaches from each school. Each coach votes for the eight other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own teams.Print Friendly Version
