Zach Lindquist, Caleb Ashby, Kyler Kregel and Chase Greenlee named to the 2016 D3football.com All-America Team

Wheaton, Ill. – Four members of the Thunder football team were named to the 2016 D3football.com All-America Team on Friday night. Seniors Zach Lindquist and Caleb Ashby (PICTURED RIGHT) each earned First Team honors, junior Kyler Kregel picked up Second Team recognition and junior Chase Greenlee picked up honorable mention honors.

Wheaton's four selections this year is the most Thunder football players on the D3football.com All-America Team in one season. University of Mary Hardin-Baylor led all programs on this year's All-America Team with eight selections; Hardin-Simmons and John Carroll each tied for the second-most honorees and Wheaton was in a group that included Mount Union, UW-Whitewater, St. Thomas and Alfred with four honorees.

Tight end Zach Lindquist (PICTURED LEFT) earned First Team All-America recognition. A two-time All-Region selection, the senior caught 42 passes this year, with 422 receiving yards. Lindquist averaged 10.0 yards per catch in 2016 and snagged six touchdown receptions. In three seasons with the Thunder, Lindquist has 102 career receptions for 1,224 yards with 11 touchdowns.

Senior Caleb Ashby earned First Team All-America honors at linebacker. Ashby, the 2016 CCIW Defensive Player of the Year, recorded 86 total tackles this season, including 47 solo stops. The senior registered 16-1/2 tackles for lost yardage (-80 yards), including 10 sacks (-67 yards). His 10 sacks tied for seventh on Wheaton's single-season sacks list. Ashby finished second on the Thunder defense in total tackles, tackles for loss and quarterback sacks. In four seasons with the Thunder, Ashby registered 231 total tackles, including 134 solo hits. He has 35 tackles for loss (-131 yards) in his career, including 12 quarterback sacks (-79 yards).

Kyler Kregel (PICTURED RIGHT) earned Second Team All-America recognition at center for the Thunder. He anchored a balanced Wheaton offensive line that helped the Thunder offense average 417.9 yards per game. Wheaton averaged 252.9 passing yards this season and ran for 165.0 yards per contest. The junior becomes the third Wheaton center to earn D3football.com All-America recognition as he joins Brian Dini, a Third Team honoree in 2004 and Spencer Clark, a First Team selection in 2014. Kregel is the seventh Wheaton offensive lineman to earn All-America honors from the website since it began awarding the recognition in 1999.

Chase Greenlee (PICTURED LEFT) earned honorable mention All-America honors at defensive end. The junior led Wheaton with 14 sacks (-79 yards) this year, a mark that is tied for third on Wheaton's single-season sacks list. Greenlee registered 19 tackles for loss (-98 yards) in 2016 and tallied 61 total tackles. The junior's 14 sacks this season is fifth among all Division III players and his 19 tackles for loss is 16th in Division III. In two seasons with the Thunder, Greenlee has recorded 93 total tackles (49 solo tackles). He has registered 23-1/2 tackles for loss (-117 yards) in his Thunder tenure, including 16 sacks (-91 yards).
