Thunder junior Caleb Ashby named as the CCIW's Defensive Player of the Week

Wheaton, Ill. - The Thunder defense once again was represented by the CCIW in their weekly awards. Junior linebacker Caleb Ashby was named this week's CCIW Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Wheaton student-athletes have earned CCIW Player of the Week recognition four times this season, including three on defense. Ashby joins Wes Cannonier (9/21) and Adam Dansdill (9/14) to be named the CCIW Defensive Player of the Week. The award is the first of his career for Ashby.

Ashby recorded eight total tackles in Saturday's 31-14 victory against Augustana, including six solo stops. Two of his tackles on the day were for lost yardage of minus-six yards and he added a pass breakup. Ashby intercepted a Viking pass at the Thunder one-yard line in the second quarter, stalling Augustana's drive and preserving Wheaton's 17-0 lead.

Ashby has played in every game at linebacker for the nationally-ranked Thunder this season, helping lead Wheaton to a 5-0 overall record and a 2-0 mark in CCIW play. He has 32 total tackles this season, including 3-1/2 tackles for lost yardage of -17 yards. He has intercepted two passes on the year.
