Wheaton senior Spencer Clark is named the recipient of the Rimington Award for Division III

Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton College senior Spencer Clark has been named the recipient of the 2014 Rimington Award for Division III. The Rimington Award recognizes the most outstanding centers in the NCAA's FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA. The Rimington Award is named after Dave Rimington, the only two-time winner of the Outland Trophy in addition to back-to-back First Team All-American selections for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Clark is a three-time All-CCIW selection at center for the Thunder. A two-time All-North Region selection by D3football.com, Clark did not allow a sack in 2014 and allowed just one sack over the past two seasons. A four-year standout at center, Clark was an integral part of a Wheaton offensive line that allowed only 10 sacks this season on 887 plays. He anchored a Wheaton line that blocked for a balanced Wheaton offense that averaged 179.6 yards per game and 239.1 passing yards per contest.

Clark was recently honored as a First Team All-American at center by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). He is the first player from a CCIW institution to win the Rimington Award for Division III and is just the fourth player from a Division III North Region program to win the award since its creation in 2003.

Three years after the Boomer Esiason Foundation launched the Rimington Trophy for the outstanding NCAA Division I-A center, it expanded that honor to include Divisions I-AA, II, III, and the NAIA. In 2008, Division I-A was renamed "Football Bowl Subdivision" (FBS), and Division I-AA was renamed "Football Championship Subdivision" (FCS). Recipients are selected by Jason Dannelly, founder and editor of Victory Sports Network, a leading authority on small college football.
