Championships and postseason bids are on the line this weekend

Wheaton, Ill.- Trophies and postseason bids will be on the line when the Thunder take the field, pitch and court this weekend. Wheaton will be competing for conference tournament titles in three different sports, and looking to secure a share of a conference title in another.

These championship events begin on Friday at 4:30 p.m. as the third-seeded Wheaton volleyball team will take on second-seeded Millikin at the 2014 CCIW Volleyball Tournament in Kenosha, Wisconsin in the tournament's first semifinal. Friday's other semifinal will feature top-seeded Carthage hosting fourth-seeded Elmhurst. The advancing teams from Friday's semifinals will compete in the Tournament Championship Match on Saturday at 2 p.m. The winner of that match, and the tournament, will earn the CCIW's automatic bid to next week's NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship. Championship Saturday starts at 1 PM when the #10-ranked Thunder football team hosts Illinois Wesleyan at McCully Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With a win, Wheaton (8-0, 5-0) will secure at least a share of the 2014 CCIW Championship. A win against the Titans would be a piece of Wheaton's first CCIW Championship since 2012 and put the Thunder one win away from the program's first undefeated regular season since 2003. The Thunder women's soccer team (17-1-2) will host Illinois Wesleyan (14-5-1) on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in the CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament Championship. Top-seeded Wheaton advanced to Saturday's match with an 8-0 victory against Elmhurst on Tuesday in the tournament's semifinal round. Second-seeded Illinois Wesleyan was a 2-0 victor against Augustana on Wednesday in the other semifinal match. WETN will broadcast the game on 88.1 FM, on WETN-TV and streamed online here. The action concludes at Joe Bean Stadium where the Thunder men's soccer team (17-3-0) will welcome the Elmhurst Bluejays (11-4-4) for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff for the CCIW Tournament Championship. Wheaton advanced courtesy of a 4-0 victory over #4-seed Millikin, while #3-Elmhurst tied #2-North Park, 1-1 and then advanced to Saturday's championship with a 7-6 advantage in the penalty kick shootout. Please note that for Saturday's soccer matches - Ticket prices are $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors and youth/students, and children under three-years-old will be admitted for free. Students with valid CCIW school ID shall be admitted free of charge. No CCIW parent passes, faculty/staff ID's, or Thunder season passes will be honored.
