2013 Football team award winners announced

Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton College Football team held its annual postseason banquet on December 14. The program honored the members of the 2013 Thunder football team, along with several individual honors.

Senior quarterback Jordan Roberts was recognized as the recipient of the "Fred Lange Most Valuable Player Award". Roberts passed for 1,914 yards this fall, completing 63.2% of his passes. He threw 14 touchdown passes and ran for another 10 touchdown scampers, running for 528 yards on the year.

Senior defensive tackle Sam Weatherred was honored with the James Parmalee Memorial Award for "Most Respected Player". Weatherred, a team captain this season, played in every game this season. He registered 18 total tackles, with 4.5-tackles for lost yardage.

Seniors Carson Gray and Brandon Dykstra received the John Henry Toughness Award. Gray battled through injury to help anchor the Thunder offensive line and Dykstra earned D3football.com All-Region honors for the second consecutive season.

The JR Bishop "Scholar Athlete Award" went to senior Justin Swider. Swider was second on the team with 734 all-purpose yards and he holds a 3.58 grade point average as a Business/Economics major at Wheaton

The 12th Man Award for "Scout Team Player of the Year" on defense went to defensive back J Moore and the award on offense was awarded to receiver Jansen Van Grinsven.

The team captains for the 2014 season were also announced – quarterback Reece Butler, running back Jesse Geary, defensive lineman Jared Todd and defensive back Mitch Warren.
