Josiah Sears named Offensive Coordinator of the Thunder football program

Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College (Ill.) football coach Mike Swider has announced the hiring of Josiah Sears as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Thunder football team. Sears replaces Joe Davis, who departed in February to become the offensive coordinator at Shippensburg University.

Sears comes to Wheaton from Franklin College where he has spent the last five years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He is a 2007 graduate of Indiana University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Finance with a minor in coaching. Sears was a four-time letterwinner at running back and fullback for the Hoosiers' football program. He joined the Indiana football team as a preferred walk-on as a freshman and was voted to serve as a team captain in his senior season. Following his collegiate career, Sears was offered try outs with both the Chicago Bears and the Buffalo Bills of the NFL.

Swider says of Sears, “We are really excited about Josiah Sears joining us here at Wheaton College. He is a young coach, however, he has had solid coaching experience at a solid Division III program .I think that is really critical for us. We wanted somebody that brings some youth and energy to staff. But at the same time we wanted somebody with experience at a similar type of school.” Swider concluded, “Additionally, something that speaks volumes about Josiah is his leadership. I think it started when he was at Indiana University as a walk-on and then as a senior he was voted as a team captain that is an impressive statement to make.”

During his tenure at Franklin, Sears directed a Grizzlies' offense that was in the top-10 of Division III in total offense, passing offense and scoring offense among other categories. Two of his quarterbacks were recognized as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Player of the Year. During his five seasons on the Grizzlies' staff Franklin posted a record of 44-11, with four HCAC Championships and four NCAA-III Playoff appearances.
