Wheaton football 2011 team awards handed out at annual banquet

Wheaton, Ill. - Senior wide receiver Teddy Watkins was named Team MVP to highlight the team awards that were handed out at the Wheaton College football team's annual postseason banquet on December 10.

Watkins earned the Lange Memorial Award for "Most Valuable Player" and was also given the Parmalee Memorial Award for "Most Respected Player". At wide receiver this season, he led the team with 62 catches for 775 yards and nine touchdowns. Watkins was a dual threat as one of the nation's leaders in kick return average with 23 returns for 634 yards (27.6 YPR). The senior was named to D3football.com's All-North Region Second Team to go with his CCIW First Team All-Conference selection.

Senior Brian McMullen (PICTURED RIGHT) received the John Henry Award for "Die With Hammer In Hand". As a starting safety and team co-captain, McMullen accumulated 36 total tackles, including 29 solo stops and two interceptions. He earned CCIW First Team All-Conference.

Senior kicker Scott Roche (PICTURED LEFT) earned the MDM Award for "Special Forces Player of the Year". Roche converted 13 of 16 field goal attempts this year (81.2 percent) with a long of 49 yards. He finishes his career with most field goals in Wheaton history (40) and ranks No. 7 in career points (218). Additionally, Roche was selected to D3football.com's All-North Region First Team along with a CCIW First Team All-Conference honor.

The 12th Man Award for “Scout Team Player of the Year” went to sophomore wide receiver David Washko on offense and freshman linebacker Ethan Cooper on defense.

The JR Bishop "Scholar Athlete Award" went to senior defensive end David Seamon (PICTURED RIGHT). Seamon totaled 18 tackles, including three tackles for a loss and two sacks. He also forced two fumbles and had five quarterback hurries.

The team captains for the 2012 season were also announced – quarterback Garrett Meador, tailback Peter Jarrett, linebacker Pat Dansdill and linebacker Sam VanHeest.

The 2011 team captains were safety Brian McMullen, linebacker Jordan Chapman, defensive end Robert Ramsay, wide receiver Teddy Watkins and fullback Brannen Dorman.Print Friendly Version
