Placekicker Scott Roche named to the Fred Mitchell Award watchlist

Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton College placekicker Scott Roche has been named to the 50-man watchlist for the 2011 Fred Mitchell Award. The annual Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award (also known as the Fred Mitchell Award) is provided to the nation's top collegiate place-kicker among more than 600 FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA football teams.

The Award is named for Fred Mitchell, the record-setting place-kicker, Wittenberg University Athletic Hall of Famer, author, and Chicago Tribune sports columnist. The selection committee for the award is looking for nominees for the award based on excellence on the football field and in the community. The winner of the Fred Mitchell Award will be announced in mid-December.

Roche heads into his senior season with the Thunder after leading the team in scoring in 2010 with 87 points from 18 field goals on 28 attempts and 33 made PAT's. He was a 2010 Second Team All-North Region selection by d3football.com, leading Division III in field goals made with a school-record 18 on the season. In October of 2010 he set a school-record with a 52-yard field goal in a Thunder victory at Augustana that saw him go 4-for-4 on field goal attempts.
