Wheaton, Ill. – Two members of the Wheaton football team have received recognition as a CCIW “Player of the Week” for their efforts in leading the Thunder to a dramatic 29-26 victory at Bethel University (Minn.) last Saturday. Sophomore linebacker JD East was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week and junior Jon Sesso has been recognized as the Special Teams Player of the Week.
East recorded eight total tackles last Saturday, including seven solo stops. Among his eight tackles, were three tackles for lost yardage of (-12 yards), including a key quarterback sack of three yards. East also tallied and interception and recovered a fumble in helping key the Thunder defense.
Sesso returned two kickoffs at Bethel, averaging 26.5 yards per return in the game. His effort helped Wheaton get outstanding field position to aid the Thunder offense in the game. Both of Sesso's returns came in the third quarter, with a 29-yard return and a 24-yard return. The junior also blocked a Bethel field goal attempt in the first quarter of the game.
