The Thunder football program is ranked sixth in D3football.com preseason poll

Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder football team is ranked sixth in the Division III preseason poll released by D3football.com this afternoon. The Thunder earns the recognition following a 2008 season in which the program posted an 11-3 record and advanced to the Semifinals of the NCAA Division III Playoffs. Wheaton was ranked fifth in the final D3football.com poll of the 2008 season.

The Thunder football team is slated to return 11 starters this season, including eight on the offensive side of the ball, with 74 total letterwinners from last year's National Semifinalist. The Thunder will scrimmage 18th-ranked Wabash College on September 5 at McCully Stadium. Wheaton will open its 2009 campaign on September 12 at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Wheaton will face North Central College, ranked fourth in the preseason poll, on October 24 in Naperville, Illinois.
