Wheaton places 12 on the 2023 All-CCIW Football Team; Kortenhoeven named a "First Year Student-Athlete of the Year"

Wheaton, Ill. –The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its All-Conference football team on Tuesday. Wheaton was well represented with 12 All-CCIW selections. Wide receiver/returner Seth Kortenhoeven was named the CCIW First-Year Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year for his outstanding debut season with the Thunder.

Running back Giovanni Weeks earned First Team All-CCIW recognition for the third-consecutive season. Weeks has a league best 130.8 rushing yards per game average this season. He has 1,308 rushing yards on 201 carries, with 16 touchdown runs. Weeks has 24 catches for 274 yards and four touchdown catches. He is averaging 6.5 yards per carry this season and has an average of 11.4 yards per catch.

Ben Bonga joined Kortenhoeven as a First Team All-CCIW selection at wide receiver this year. Bonga leads the Thunder with 62 receptions this season for 891 yards, and eight touchdown catches. Kortenhoeven has 46 catches for 716 yards, with nine touchdown receptions. Tight end Ben Juska earns his second career All-CCIW award with a Second Team selection this year, following a First Team All-CCIW honor last season. Juska has 28 catches for 260 yards this season. He is averaging 9.3 yards per catch, with two touchdown receptions.

Four Thunder offensive linemen earned All-CCIW honors. Trevor Gabriele and Paul Fay each earned First Team honors for the second-consecutive season. Aidan Kingsbury and Elijah Nitz each picked up Second Team honors on the offensive line. The quartet anchored an impressive Thunder offense that ranks 10th in Division III in points per game (46.9 PPG) and is 14th in total offense (491.6 YPG). Wheaton has shown tremendous balance behind its superb offensive line with 285.8 yards per game and 205.8 rushing yards per game. The line has allowed just nine quarterback sacks this season.

Quarterback Ben Thorson picked up Second Team All-CCIW recognition. Thorson has impressed this season with zero interceptions on his 294 passing attempts. He has a 69.7% (205-294) completion percentage in passing for 2,608 yards, with 30 touchdown passes for the Thunder.

Cornerback Max Wilson picked up his second career All-CCIW award with First Team recognition this season, following a Second Team award last season. Wilson is tied for the team lead with two interceptions this season and he has five passes broken up with a fumble recovery. Wilson has 42 total tackles this year, including 28 solo stops, and 2-1/2 tackles for loss (-15 yards)

Sophomore Peter Johanik earns First Team All-CCIW accolades on the defensive line. Johanik has a team-high 14 tackles for loss (-79 yards), including seven quarterback sacks (-60 yards). Causing havoc in opponents backfields this season, Johanik has a team-leading 11 quarterback hurries. He is third on the Thunder defense with 46 total tackles, including 30 solo stops.

Caleb McClung is a Second Team All-CCIW honoree at linebacker. McClung is second on the Thunder defense this year with 56 total tackles, including 29 solo stops. He has registered seven tackles for loss (-23 yards), including 1-1/2 quarterback sacks (-11 yards).

JJ Ruff was recognized with the CCIW's "Elite 26 Award". Modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 program, the CCIW Elite 26 is presented to the student-athlete who excels academically and athletically at the conference level in each of the CCIW's 26 sponsored sports.

Senior Riley Schwartz was named Wheaton's honoree of the CCIW's RESPECT Award. At the conclusion of every sports season, each varsity program recognizes one student-athlete as their RESPECT Award honoree. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution and community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration and Trust.
