Cristian Carstens and Max Wilson named CCIW Football Student-Athletes of the Week

Wheaton, Ill. - Cristian Carstens and Max Wilson of the Thunder football team have each been named a CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week for their respective efforts in Wheaton's victory against No. 19 UW-Oshkosh last Saturday.
Carstens earned the league's Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week award. The senior runningback ran for 99 yards on 19 carries as he averaged 5.2 yards per carry. Carstens reached the end zone twice in the win against the Titans. His first touchdown was a five-yard score early in the second quarter to give the Thunder a 14-9 lead. His second touchdown was a two-yard run early in the fourth quarter to put Wheaton up 23-15. Carstens also played a key role in securing in Wheaton's final offensive drive. The final five rushing attempts in the last 2:42 of the game were carries by Carstens to help Wheaton run time off the clock as he gained 26 yards on those five carries. He earned two crucial first downs to keep the Titans from regaining possession at the end of the game.
Wilson recorded two interceptions for the Thunder defense last Saturday. His first interception stopped a Titans' drive at the guests' 39-yard line midway through the second quarter and setup a Thunder field goal later in the quarter to give Wheaton a 17-9 lead. Wilson's second pick of the day came with 2:42 remaining in the game, on a Titans' fourth-and-16, and was returned to the Thunder 30-yard line. The interception gave the hosts the ball with 2:42 remaining in the game and a 30-21 lead that the offense ran out for the remainder of the contest.
The Thunder travel to Illinois Wesleyan next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff against the Titans.
