Giovanni Weeks Trevor Gabriele named to D3football.com Preseason All-America Team

Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton running back Giovanni Weeks and guard Trevor Gabriele (PICTURED LEFT) have been named to the 2023 D3football.com Preseason All-America Team as announced by the website on Tuesday.

Wheaton has produced 37 total D3football.com Preseason All-America selections in the 24 years that the website has produced preseason All-America squads. The selection of Weeks and Gabriele marks the 12th-consecutive season that the Thunder football program has produced at least one Preseason All-America selection on the website's list. Wheaton has produced at least one preseason All-American in 17 of the 24 seasons that the website has produced its list of the top Division III players ahead of each season.

Weeks is a Second Team preseason All-America honoree at running back this season, an honor he earned on the website's 2022 Preseason All-America Team. Weeks was a Third Team All-America selection by D3football.com at the conclusion of the 2022 and 2021 seasons. He was also named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Division III Football Team for the second-consecutive year.

Last year, Weeks (PICTURED RIGHT) broke his own Wheaton single-season record for touchdowns with 24. He carried the ball 191 times for 1,245 yards in 2022, as he averaged 6.5 yards per carry and 18 rushing touchdowns. Weeks recorded 29 receptions for 340 yards as he averaged 11.7 yards per catch, with six touchdown receptions.

Gabriele is a Second Team Preseason All-America selection at guard this year. Last year, he earned three All-America awards at the conclusion of the 2022 season as he was Wheaton's lone unanimous All-American by earning a spot on all-three Division III Teams. Gabriele was named a First Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), earned a Second Team nod to the Associated Press All-America Team, and was a Fourth Team selection to the 2022 D3football.com All-America Team. Gabriele was the 10th Wheaton offensive lineman to earn a D3football.com All-America selection with last year's recognition and the third guard, joining: James Hoxworth (2003) and Peter Gibson (2015).

A First Team All-Region Five selection by D3football.com in 2022, Gabriele keyed a Thunder offense that was fifth in Division III in total offense with a school record 507.2 yards per game last year. Wheaton ended the season 16th in D3 in rushing offense (225.8 YPG) and 27th in passing offense (281.4 YPG).
