Chris Fossum earns ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Second Team honors

Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College senior Chris Fossum has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Second Team for football. The recognition for Fossum was announced earlier this week by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This marks the second consecutive year that Fossum has earned Second Team All-District accolades

Fossum is a double-major in Psychology and Business/Economics at Wheaton with a 3.57 grade point average. The senior captain has a team-best 682 receiving yards for the 10th-ranked Thunder. Fossum has tallied 40 catches this year, with six touchdown receptions. He has averaged 17 yards per catch and a team-high average of 75.8 receiving yards per game.

The Academic All-District Team is a part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program that honors student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level in athletics and in the classroom. Members of the eight First Team Academic All-District squads advance to the national ballot, where they have the opportunity to be selected for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA; a 2,000-member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
