Riley Schwartz and Giovanni Weeks earn weekly awards from D3football.com and the CCIW

Wheaton, Ill. - Riley Schwartz and Giovanni Weeks of the Thunder football team have both earned recognition for their respective performances in last Saturday's 38-28 victory at Augustana. On Tuesday, both players were named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.

On Monday, they were each selected as a CCIW Football Student-Athlete of the Week. Schwartz was named the Student-Athlete of the Week on the defensive side of the ball for the first time in his career. Weeks picks up the award on offense for the third time in his career, also earning the honor on Nov. 8, 2021 and Nov. 15, 2021. The pair earned this week's recognition for their efforts in Wheaton's 38-28 victory.

Schwartz, a Thunder cornerback, intercepted two Augustana passes in the second half at Augustana. His first interception was with 1:50 remaining in the third quarter as he picked the ball off and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. His second interception came with Wheaton leading by 10 and Augustana attempting to mount a rally in the final minutes, however, his interception with 1:01 remaining in the game thwarted the Vikings' rally attempt and secured the win for Wheaton as the Thunder took a knee for the final two plays of the game following the pick to secure the win.

Weeks, the Thunder running back, ran for 266 yards on Saturday in Rock Island. His effort on Saturday was the seventh-highest single-game rushing total in Division III this year, and was the most by a Thunder running back since November 11, 2017. He averaged 7.4 yards per carry in the outing and none of his 36 carries were behind the line of scrimmage with no yards for a loss. Additionally, Wheaton had 68 offensive plays in the game and 36 of those plays were carries by the All-American running back. Weeks is currently 11th in Division III in all-purpose yards, with an average of 174.33 yards per game, and he is 17th in rushing yards per game (114.0 YPG).

The 11th-ranked Thunder travel to Naperville next Saturday night to face top-ranked North Central in the "Battle for the Little Brass Bell". Kickoff at North Central is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
