The Wheaton football team earns an additional preaseason ranking; Giovanni Weeks earns recognition

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton football team has earned an additional recognition from a national college football preseason publication. The Thunder football program is ranked ninth in the Lindy's Sports college football preseason magazine. Wheaton earns the rankings following a 2021 season in which the program posted a 10-2 record and advanced to the NCAA Division III Playoffs' Second Round.

Senior running back Giovanni Weeks was selected to Lindy's preseason 2022 All-Division III Team. Weeks led Wheaton with a school-record 1,462 rushing yards in 2022. His average of 8.2 yards per carry ranked second in Division III. He established a new school record with 20 rushing touchdowns, and he had 21 total touchdowns. He averaged 178.2 all-purpose yards per game to rank fourth in Division III last season, and he was fifth in Division III in total rushing yards.

Lindy's listed Wheaton's October 1 game at North Central as one of five games to watch in Division III in the 2022 season.

The Thunder open the 2022 season at Trinity University (Texas) on September 10 in a 6:00 p.m. kickoff in San Antonio, Texas. Trinity is ranked 11th in the 2022 Lindy's preseason poll.Print Friendly Version
