Pete Ittersagen named CCIW "Player of the Week" for special teams

Wheaton, Ill. - Thunder junior Pete Ittersagen has been named recognized as the CCIW "Player of the Week" for special teams for the games of September 8. Ittersagen's effort helped lead Wheaton (1-0), ranked 10th in this week's D3Football.com Top 25, to a 28-10 win at Albion College.

Ittersagen returned four punt returns for 118 yards last Saturday, averaging 29.5 yards per return. The longest of Ittersagen's returns was a 78-yarder for a touchdown, late in the first quarter, to give the Thunder a 14-0. The cornerback also made an impact on the Thunder defense, with a game-high 10 total tackles, including eight solo stops. He also had a 17-yard interception return that he took back to the Albion 18-yard line to setup Wheaton's third touchdown of the game, three plays later, giving the Thunder a 21-0 lead.

Ittersagen was a honorable mention All-American in 2006 and a preseason All-American selection at cornerback by D3Football.com this year. He has recorded 125 career total tackles, with 85 solo stops. The junior also has eight career interceptions, including three returns for a touchdown and 26 passes broken-up. He has also contributed heavily on special teams throughout his career, with 16 career punt returns, for 325 yards, averaging 20.3 yards per return, and two returns for a touchdown.
