Avery Anderson joins the Thunder football program as an assistant coach

Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College (Ill.) football coach Jesse Scott has announced the appointment of Avery Anderson as a defensive assistant coach for the Thunder football program. Scott notes of the addition, "Avery's passion for the mission of Wheaton Football has been evident since the very first minute of this process. He is excited to join a program that places a premium on competitive excellence while challenging young men to grow into who it is that God means for them to be."

Anderson joins the Wheaton coaching staff from University of Nebraska where he played five seasons (2015-19), including a redshirt season, on the gridiron for the Cornhuskers. As a redshirt player in 2015, he was named Nebraska's Scout Team Special Teams MVP. He played at safety and on special teams throughout his career, including a career-high 11 games played as a sophomore in 2017.

During his career, Anderson was recognized as a recipient of the Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar Award (2020); named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll (Fall 2018, 2019; Spring 2019); the Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award (2019); Brook Berringer Citizenship Team (2016, 2017, 2019, 2020); and the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team (2016, 2017, 2019, 2020).

Anderson earned his Bachelor's Degree in Advertising and Public Relations from Nebraska in December of 2018.
