The fifth-ranked Thunder football team defeats Carroll 51-12 to remain undefeated

Waukesha, Wis. - The Wheaton football team earned a 51-12 victory at Carroll University (2-6, 1-6 CCIW) on Saturday afternoon. Wheaton, ranked fifth in both national Division III polls, improves to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in CCIW play.

Wheaton totaled 522 yards of offense on Saturday with 284 rushing yards and 238 passing yards. Carroll had 198 yards of offense in the game, rushing for 61 yards with 137 passing yards.

WIll Smith carried the ball 10 times for 78 yards. Senior Stone Watson ran for 64 yards on 11 carries. Watson also caught three passes for 51 yards with one touchdown catch. Adam Terrini caught five passes for 103 yards with two touchdown catches, and he also ran for a touchdown.

Quarterback Luke Anthony completed 14 of his 21 passing attempts for 193 yards with three touchdown passes. Jeremiah Tucker completed five of his six passing attempts for 46 yards with one touchdown pass. Tucker also ran for 46 yards on eight carries with one touchdown run.

Linebacker Wyatt Lee led the Thunder with seven total tackles and he recorded three tackles for loss (-18 yards). He had a quarterback sack (-11 yards) and an interception. Corey Kennedy recorded five total tackles with one tackle for loss (-4 yards).

Wheaton got on the scoreboard early in the first quarter on a 30-yard interception returned for a touchdown by Spencer Rowland (PICTURED LEFT). Rowland's pick-six gave Wheaton a 6-0 lead with 12:54 remaining in the first quarter.

Jeremiah Tucker's six-yard touchdown run with 11:39 remaining in the second quarter was followed by a PAT to increase Wheaton's lead to 13-0. Terrini capped a nine-play drive of 59 yards with a two-yard touchdown run, followed by a PAT to increase Wheaton's lead to 20-0 with 7:24 remaining in the game. Carroll returned a Thunder interception 66 yards for a touchdown to trim the Wheaton lead to 20-6 with 2:39 remaining in the first half. Thunder kicker Griffin Bowes booted a 40-yard field as time expired at the end of the first half to give Wheaton a 23-6 lead at halftime.

Terrini caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Anthony with 8:47 remaining in the third quarter to give Wheaton a 30-6 lead. Terrini followed that later in the quarter with a 65-yard touchdown reception from Anthony for a 37-6 Wheaton lead with 1:36 left in the third quarter. Stone Watson scored on a 26-yard touchdown catch with 1:28 left in the third quarter to extend the guests' lead to 44-6.

Tucker threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Jack Miller with 11:59 remaining in the fourth quarter to extend Wheaton's lead to 51-6. The Pioneers' first offensive touchdown of the game was a 25-yard touchdown pass with 5:46 remaining in the fourth quarter to account for the 51-12 final score.
