Mequon, Wis. – The 10th-ranked Wheaton football team played solid overall football on Saturday afternoon en route to a 48-3 road win at Concordia University (Wis.). Wheaton is now 2-0 on the year and Concordia falls to 0-3 overall. Today's victory was Wheaton's 19th consecutive non-conference win during the regular season.

Wheaton jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and the Thunder owned a 24-3 edge at halftime. Wheaton dominated the Falcons throughout, as the Thunder tallied 514 yards of total offense – averaging 8.4 yards per play. The guests ran for 274 yards and passed for 240. Concordia amassed 109 yards of offense, passing for 20 yards, with 89 rushing yards.

Thunder senior Tim Ellingsen (PICTURED RIGHT) capped off an 11-play drive of 55 yards with a 31-yard field goal to give Wheaton a 3-0 lead with 11:34 left in the first quarter. Quarterback Sean Norris extended the Thunder advantage to 10-0 with a five-yard touchdown run with 1:02 left in the third quarter. In the second quarter Norris connected with senior receiver Alex Pokorny on a pair of touchdown passes – a 60-yard connection and a 35-yard score to extend the guests' lead to 24-0. Concordia's lone points of the game came with 1:35 left in the first half when Dan Winsey booted a 35-yard field goal.

Pokorny's third touchdown catch of the day came with 9:34 left in the third quarter when he caught a 45-yard pass from Norris for a 31-3 Wheaton lead. Ellingsen kicked another 31-yard field goal with 47-seconds left in the third quarter for a 34-3 Wheaton advantage. Wheaton's Dan Newman scored on a one-yard touchdown run with 12:38 left in the game and Dan Svendsen caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Bradley with 9:56 left in the game to account for the 48-3 Thunder victory.

Tailback Rocky Gingg carried the ball 14 times for 103 yards. Norris completed 8 of his 22 passing attempts for 206 yards with three touchdowns. Pokorny caught 140 of Wheaton's 240 receiving yards on his three touchdown catches.

Ryan Hoyt led the Thunder defense with six tackles, including two for lost yardage (-18 yards). Defensive backs Jordan Schirman and Pete Ittersagen each had five tackles. Schirman recorded three tackles for lost yardage (-10 yards). Ittersagen and senior Shane Woodward each intercepted a pass for the Thunder.

David White led the Falcons' offense with 13 carries for 59 yards. Quarterback Thom Pacchioli ran for 39 yards on nine carries and he was 1-for-5 passing for eight yards. Paul Metcalfe and Joe Moro each recorded six total tackles to lead the Falcons' defense.Print Friendly Version
